• The Woodstock Music Festival brought in over 400,000 individuals to a 600 acre dairy farm in Bethel, NY to listen to music from bands like the Grateful Dead, Jefferson Airplane, Janis Joplin and Jimi Hendrix. To free themselves from their possessions and belongings, hippies often would choose to live either a nomadic or communal lifestyle.

• Hippies often join in Rainbow groups every year which are mainly held in various spots in public lands such as national forests. People gather and spread peace and love, celebrate the gifts of nature and then when they depart, they respectfully  clean up anything and everything a crowd of over 20,000 persons could have left behind.
